So… what is hot dip galvanizing?

Hot dip galvanizing is the process whereby fabricated or structural steel, castings, or small parts, including fasteners, are immersed in a kettle or vat of molten zinc. The process of hot dip galvanizing results in a metallurgical bond between zinc and steel with a series of distinct iron-zinc alloys. Hot dip galvanizing helps prevent corrosion of the metal and therefore helps prolong the life of the steel.

Galvanized steel is widely used in applications where rust resistance is needed, and can be identified by the crystallisation patterning on the surface of the metal as displayed in the picture above.

Hot dip galvanizing is often referred to as just “galvanizing.” The term is often used incorrectly to describe steel coated with zinc-rich paint, electro-statically (plated) applied zinc, and mechanically applied zinc. Applying zinc to steel for corrosion protection is very different to hot dip galvanizing and may be inappropriate for many situations and environmental exposures.

As previously mentioned, hot dip galvanizing involves dipping steel in molten zinc, and as a result all parts of the surface of the steel are coated. The molten zinc reaches inside and outside of the material and also reaches any awkward corners and narrow gaps which would otherwise be impossible to protect any other way.

With an ever increasing number of customers wishing to use the collection and delivery service that Premier Galvanizing offers, it is of the utmost importance that we have the right tools to do the job.

We are very proud of our company image and our new modern fleet of vehicles. Together with well presented and customer focused drivers, we believe we have the perfect package.

Our transport fleet consists of six vehicles, made up of three articulated vehicles, two ten tonne rigid vehicles and one seven and half tonne vehicles.

The diverse fleet we operate gives us the flexibility needed to collect almost any size of fabrication from any company premises large or  small. We operate in very large area collecting and delivering hot dip galvanizing as far as Sheffield in the North, Birmingham in the West, Gatwick in the South and Norwich in the East. We are also available to make arrangements to deliver/collect outside our normal operating area should this be required.

The fast, reliable and efficient service that we offer is second to none in the galvanizing industry and we work very hard to ensure that the high level of service that our customers demand is maintained at all times.

Working as a team with our customers Premier Galvanizing have been involved with numerous high profile projects where reliability of service was of the utmost importance and tight deadlines had to be met. Premier Galvanizing have a long running relationship with a well established fabricator based in Sheffield. This has been forged on a history of high quality hot dip galvanizing and lightening quick turnarounds.

The multi skilled workforce at Premier Galvanizing are no strangers to fulfilling customer requirements by processing jobs in double quick time but they really pulled out all the stops recently.

Under pressure to get a set of delicate bespoke panels, hot dip galvanized, powder coated and installed, the customer called in Premier Galvanizing to complete the first stage of their very own ‘Mission Impossible’.

After liaising with the customer, the office based production team agreed a set criteria regarding:

• Unloading from the wagon
• Suspension points
• Post galv fettling
• Re-stacking of work, and
• Re-loading onto the wagon.

These were shared with the night shift via photographs of the product.

After fabricating the panels late into the day, they arrived at the plant at 10pm, met by the night shift; who quickly began the task in hand. Closely monitored through the entire process by the night team, the panels where successfully hot dip galvanized, fettled and stacked to the customer’s exact requirements. Re-loaded onto the waiting wagon at 6am, with a turnaround in less than eight hours the panels where set on the road to completion.

Alison, Gary, Justin, Alex of Premier Galvanizing are taking on the Major Series Challenge of a 10km run through Bramhope Park on 3rd March 2012.

The Premier Galvanizing management team taking part have many years experience in the hot dip galvanizing industry and will be drawing on the teamwork skills to overcome the many obstacles that they will be facing as they battle against the clock.

If the 10km distance wasn’t enough there will be swamps and water to wade through as well as structures to climb over.

Offering the complete package to customers in the steel fabrication industry has never been more important, Premier Galvanizing Hull were recently contacted by a customer who needed pipework collected, delivered to a shot blaster, recollected, hot dip galvanized and delivered onwards to site in West Yorkshire.

By being in a position to service the client Premier Galvanizing were awarded the contract and delivered on their promises.

All the above was arranged by the production team at Premier Galvanizing Hull, the collection was arranged for the following day on an an artic vehicle and the pipework was promptly sent down to Trent Blasting in Nottinghamshire.

The client took delivery of the hot dip galvanized pipework within five days of placing the order, this would not have been possible without the close co-ordination and co-operation of all parties involved.

Premier Galvanizing and Bowring Transport have been working together successfully for many years, transporting hot dip galvanizing throughout the country.

By placing a commitnment with Bowring Transport the fleet at Corby has been replaced with the shiny new vehicles. See if you can spot them on the UK roads!

The drivers are representives of Premier Galvanizing and are the first point of contact between ourselves and our customers, which is why it is essential to have a stable driver network. Despite Premier Galvanzing Corby subcontracting the transport to another company the drivers remain the same, building relationships with customers and understanding their needs.

Premier Galvaning Corby are specialist hot dip galvanizers who offer a collection and delivery service for steel fabricators in the Midlands and South East of England.

Premier Galvanizing Hull are delighted to sponsor winter jackets for the young under 11’s team F.C. SUTTON.

The young local team based in East Hull are a leading light in the local Sunday football leagues. Sutton F.C. are a fantastic organisation supporting kids from throughout the area, providing facilities and coaching to continually improve the kids.

The unpaid work put in by all the volunteers is invaluable and often overlooked, without the support of people like John there wouldn’t be the opportunities for the kids that Sutton FC presents.

Sutton FC are just like Premier Galvanizing, all their teams go out with the attitude to always give it their best, hence why they are riding high at the top the league.

Supporting the local community is incredibly important to Premier Galvanizing. As well as the new winter training jackets we have provided, we have also recently sponsored a local netball team. We have also been involved in the regeneration of disused land in West Hull, transforming this waste land in to a seated garden area for the residents of Hessle to enjoy.
