Stephen Harvey and others on bikes

Congratulations to the runners and riders of the Velo Birmingham.

A couple of weekends ago the inaugural Velo Birmingham took place in the Midlands.

The course was 100 miles long and 15,000 cyclists of all abilities took part, criss-crossing through the picturesque Worcestershire and Staffordshire countryside before returning to Birmingham.

The event – which raised funds for various charities – was also created as part of the Birmingham Cycle Revolution, whereby Birmingham City Council are trying to encourage more people to take to the roads on two wheels, rather than four.

As per an earlier story on our website in March, we’re proud to say that team members from Premier Galvanizing and the Joseph Ash Group, including Stuart Cobourne and Richard Hall, took part in the race. They enjoyed the event and achieved very respectable times between 5.30 and 7.11 hours.

A Premier Galvanizing client, Stephen Harvey, also took part.

Congratulations to the team!

You can see some of the photos of our team members at the event here.

Here’s to the Velo Birmingham 2018!

We love a good news story! So what better news is there than being proud to offer new career prospects to people in Hull?

With the year starting off as busy as the last finished, we have decided to bring in additional reinforcements to ensure we can continue to cope with demand and continue to provide our high levels of hot dip galvanizing services and quality control to each of our clients.

We put great emphasis on the training and development of our people so our new team members immersed themselves into our highly detailed and structured training programme which ensures that regardless of the specific role they have been employed to undertake – they will also learn and develop skills in all areas of our galvanizing production processes.

Strengthening our team ensures that our clients experience the very best levels of performance at all times, providing the necessary additional resource we need in the short term, but as we further develop our reach into the business community – it ensures we are able to grow and develop better in the longer term by giving us greater flexibility to deal with our customers needs.

Developing our people…

It’s early days but our new recruits are all showing a keen interest to learn, a willingness to get stuck in and a real desire to succeed. All qualities that mirror our company aims and objectives.

If we can carry on with this momentum then 2014 could be a real year of opportunity!

As training and development of our people is one of the areas which Premier Galvanizing lays great emphasis on, Steve Sylvester (Production Manager) recently completed a four year degree course in Business Management and Logistics at the University of Hull.

The course, alongside his demanding day job proved testing at times on his social life, however Steve really appreciated the knowledge and experience he has gained at Premier Galvanizing in helping him produce some excellent work in each of the modules which included Business law and ethics, finance, logistics, marketing and human resource management.

“The support the company gave me throughout the four years was invaluable. I am delighted that Premier Galvanizing encouraged me to continue my education as a mature student and thus gaining a business management degree. This will prove invaluable throughout my career.”

Here’s to a bright future for Steve and we look forward to a long and prosperous journey through life!

Galvanizing growth – now that’s what I call TEAMWORK!

Over the past few months we have been very busy on numerous high end hot dip galvanizing projects throughout the country. Two projects in particular were at a crucial stage and simply had to happen with constant overnight turn-around requirements being required.

This has been great from a business perspective but has made us think about the resources we have and how these can be best utilised.

We needed to do this because there was a risk that demand would out strip our ability to supply and this was simply not an option.

Considering we already work 24 hours a day starting at 9pm Sunday and running through until 8pm on a Friday as our basic week we are limited how we can build additional production into our week other than on a weekend.

We have an excellent core of multi-skilled employees who were working additional hours within the basic week, but needed to maximise our production capacity over the weekend periods.

We approached our Corby galvanizing plant to gauge interest in operatives coming to Hull to work over the weekend, working a full day Saturday and Sunday in conjunction with a team of Hull operatives.

Luckily the Corby guys jumped at the chance to come up to Hull.

We have repeated this exercise four times over the last couple of months which has proved to be a complete success and has achieved the following:

  1. Given us the additional galvanizing production capacity required
  2. Resulted in us fulfilling our commitment to our galvanizing customers by achieving all customer deadlines.
  3. Cemented strong working relationships between the two plants
  4. Created strong working relationships between the two sets of operatives and strong bonds have been formed.

Olympic Flame journey through Sleaford.

Premier Galvanizing’s Technical and Development Director, Robert Mohan, has something to smile about next week. His eldest son, also called Robert, has been selected to carry the Olympic flame on a leg of its journey through Sleaford in Lincolnshire on Wednesday 27th June.

Robert has been a successful athlete from a young age and has concentrated on shot put for the last couple of years since going to Loughborough University where he has just finished his degree in Sports Science.  It is not surprising that he has athletics running through his veins, as his parents Robert and Jackie are both keen athletics supporters, coaches and ex-athletes.

Robert (jnr) says “It’s a massive honour and I realise how lucky I am to be selected.  I have always loved doing sport and it is such a thrill to think that I will be carrying the torch in my home county of Lincolnshire”.

We wish him the best of luck next week and congratulations on being selected for such an amazing event.

If you would like to find out more about young Robert’s shot put exploits, follow the link to the website that he has recently finished updating.  www.robertmohan.com

The Major Series participants.

Following their commitment to attend the Major Series at Bramham Park Leeds, West Yorkshire on 3 March 2012, the three brave souls from Premier Galvanizing survived everything the Major could throw at them.

There was smoke, swamps to wade through, ditches to climb in and out of, cargo nets to crawl under, hills to summit and waist deep streams to navigate.

There was also the mud to contend with lots and lots of mud. The mud got stickier and deeper as the day went on.

Justin and Alex got away fairly lightly as they both completed the 12k course in under 1 hr 13 minutes, however Alison and her brother who escorted her around the course didnt fair quite so well as can be seen in the photo above.

A great day was had by all on a very challenging course.

The Premier Galvanizing management team taking part have many years experience in the hot dip galvanizing industry and will be drawing on the teamwork skills to overcome the many obstacles that they will be facing as they battle against the clock.

If the 10km distance wasn’t enough there will be swamps and water to wade through as well as structures to climb over.
